The OIR is running a series of in-person workshops for volunteer-involved organisations on the Child and Youth Safe Framework in November.
During these two-hour in-person workshops, you’ll take part in practical activities that build key child-safe practices and policies.
You will:
- choose the child-safe area you’d like to focus on
- receive real-time support, tools, and resources
- leave with foundational child-safe work for your organisation already underway—or with existing work refined.
What practical activities are available in the workshop?
- Get started on your Statement of Commitment to Child and Youth Safety
- Begin developing your Child and Youth Safe Policy
- Practice identifying between positive, concerning and inappropriate behaviours (Child and Youth Safe Code of Conduct)
- Assess your organisation’s progress with the Child and Youth Safe Standards and Universal Principle
- Review, improve and action your organisation's existing Child and Youth Safe Policy
Who are these workshops for?
These workshops are for volunteers, workers and leaders of volunteer-involved organisations which provide services for children and young people. This includes organisations where some or all of the workforce are volunteers.

Get started on your Statement of Commitment to Child and Youth Safety
- This activity is for those who are new to the Child and Youth Safe Organisations Framework or unsure where to get started.
- You will receive support to start developing your statement and plan practical steps to put your commitment into action within your organisation.
Begin developing your Child and Youth Safe Policy
- This activity is ideal for organisations needing to create their Child and Youth Safe Policy.
- You will review an example policy, identify areas for improvement, and begin mapping out key messages for your own Child and Youth Safe Policy.
Practice identifying between positive, concerning and inappropriate behaviours (Child and Youth Safe Code of Conduct)
- This activity is ideal for organisations without a Code of Conduct or those needing support to assess behavioural risks within their organisations.
- You’ll work with two example organisations to categorise behaviours, set clear expectations, and outline reporting processes and consequences for breaches.
Assess your organisation’s progress with the Child and Youth Safe Standards and Universal Principle
- This activity is ideal for organisations that are unsure where to begin or need guidance to meet the Standards or Universal Principle effectively.
- You will categorise your organisations current child and youth safe practices, reflect on what’s working, and identify areas for improvement. You will leave with a clearer understanding of your organisation’s strengths and a workbook to guide your next steps.
Review, improve and action your organisation's existing Child and Youth Safe Policy
- This activity is ideal for organisations ready to refine and take practical action on their existing Child and Youth Safe Policy.
- You’ll review an example policy, reflect on your own, and plan actionable next steps to ensure your policy is clear, practical, and useful.
