This page includes links to the Reportable Conduct Scheme (the Scheme) webforms that you can use to make a report to the Independent Regulator, and provide updates to a report.

The Scheme requires leaders of specific organisations to:

• report concerns of conduct related to child abuse involving a worker in their organisation to the Independent Regulator, and
• investigate these concerns.

Leaders must:

• notify the Independent Regulator within three business day, in writing, of being made aware of a reportable conduct
• start an investigation as soon as possible
• provide detailed information, after 30 days, on the progress of their investigation
• provide a final report after completing their investigation.

The Scheme is about creating a culture where organisations that engage with children and young people investigate concerns about their wellbeing in a thorough, transparent, safe and child-centred way.

Anyone can make a report, but the leader of an organisation is legally required to report a concern they are made aware of. If you are not a leader of an organisation, but want to make a report about a workers conduct, contact us.

Before making a report

1. Read more about the Scheme and understand what conduct must be reported.
2. Think about any other reporting obligations you may have, including police (if the alleged conduct is criminal), the Strong Families Safe Kids Advice and Referral Line, or the Registration to Work with Vulnerable People scheme. You can find a reporting pathways poster on our resources webpage.
3. Be aware of the wellbeing and support services available.

Making a 3 day notification report

• You will be asked for information including:
  • Your organisation details
  • The head of organisation details and yours (if you are not the head)
  • The worker’s details
  • Details of the alleged conduct
  • Details of the alleged victim/s
  • Other reporting obligation details
  • Details of the actions you may or may not be undertaking.

• You can upload files in support of your notification up to a maximum file size of 10MB per file type. If you encounter problems uploading files, please email contact@oir.tas.gov.au.

Submit a 3 Day Notification Report

Providing the 30 day update

• You will be asked for information including:
  • case reference number provided to you after you made the original notification
  • information about the allegation or conviction
  • whether any actions have been taken (for example, placing a limit on a worker’s contact with children)
  • any written submissions.
• You can upload files to support your notification, these can be uploaded as mp3, msg, pdf, png, jpg or jpeg file types up to 10mb each.

Providing the final investigation report

• The final investigation report is a comprehensive summary report of your investigation with supporting evidence.
• You will be asked for information including:
  • case reference number provided to you after you made the original notification
  • findings for all allegations that relate to this investigation
  • details of actions taken/proposed to be taken in relation to the worker who is the subject of this investigation
• You can upload files to support your report, these can be uploaded as mp3, msg, pdf, png, jpg or jpeg file types up to 10mb each.

Submit a Final Investigation Report

Children and young people at the centre of a reportable conduct investigation should be kept informed of its progress, and not caught off guard by significant developments. Take time to explain processes and procedures in a gentle, clear, and accessible way.

Other reporting obligations

Remember, the Reportable Conduct Scheme doesn’t replace other existing reporting obligations.

Other information

The Independent Regulator’s role is to oversee compliance with the Child and youth Safe Organisations Act 2023. The Independent Regulator cannot investigate matters for organisations but can provide help in understanding requirements under the law.
