OIR Annual Report 2025-26

The OIR is pleased to share its 2025-26 Annual Report (PDF, 36.6 MB), which was tabled in the Parliament of Tasmania on 29 October 2026.

"While meaningful engagement remains a challenge in some sectors, others are setting a strong example of how organisations can protect children and young people from harm.

As the regulatory framework matures, organisations are expected to demonstrate that they are meeting
their obligations. Our response to non-compliance will reflect that expectation." Independent Regulator Louise Coe states in her opening foreword.

The report offers insight into our work to keep children and young people safe in organisations by exploring how:

  • we provided education and support to help organisations build child safety skills
  • the Assessment and Monitoring function is being established, with its first formal assessment and monitoring report released this year.
  • we oversee reportable conduct through the Reportable Conduct Scheme
  • we share information, and collaborate with local and interjurisdictional partners.

A preview of data insights within the 2025-26 Annual Report:

  • We received 632 notifications in 2025–26, and 81% of notifications were received within
    the required 3 days.
  • The OIR disagreed with an element of a reportable conduct investigation in 23% of closures for letters signed this year.
  • Through targeted engagement and education activities, the OIR connected with more than 1,600 participants.
  • 48 organisations received advice about their policies and procedures.
