The OIR is pleased to share its 2024-25 Annual Report, which will be tabled in the Parliament of Tasmania on 4 November 2025.
"Every one of the 567 reportable conduct notifications received last financial year has the potential to expose a blind spot in an organisation’s child-safe approach," Independent Regulator Louise Coe states in her opening foreword.
"Overseeing how organisations respond allows us to shine a light on areas of concern and identify where to channel their efforts."
The report offers insight into our work to keep children safe in organisations by exploring how:
- we work to support the creation of child and youth safe organisations
 - we oversee reportable conduct through the Reportable Conduct Scheme
 - we enact our assessment and monitoring function, including information about our underway assessment program
 - we share information, and collaborate with local and interjurisdictional partners.

A preview of data insights within the 2024-25 Annual Report:
- We received 567 notifications in 2024–25—an average of 12 per week, compared to 9 per week in the last reporting period (1 January 2024 – 30 June 2024).
 - Education services (33 per cent, n=189), child protection and out-of-home care (23 per cent, n=133), and custodial youth justice (13 per cent, n=73) accounted for the largest number of reportable conduct notifications per sector.
 - Approximately 1,500 individuals from almost 400 organisations across the state were reached through the OIR's educational engagements.
 - Post-session surveys show 99% of participants (n=323) came away with increased confidence about how to make their organisation child and youth safe.
